what is the difference between a web page (about your person) and www.myspace.com?

I am thinking about creating a web page about myself and also some medical information (educational info), some pics about my travels, I am thinking about doing a fun page for my friends and patients, so I do not know if in order to do that I have to pay for a web site or go with my space?
